18t Tiling Bridge Winch
BHP Billiton & Anglo American Corporation 's Groote Eylandt Mining Company (GEMCO) has selected Eilbeck Cranes to replace the existing Tilting Bridge Hoist System (Hoist System) and Loading Boom Shuttle System (Shuttle System) on C-001 ship loading conveyor to suit higher capacity upgrade to the conveyor. The scope of work was to replace the existing winches and sub-items (including all sheaves) with newly designed equipment to support the increased loads.
Eilbeck Cranes winch design team engineered the hoist and shuttle system to suit the new loadings to the same configuration and arrangement as the existing ones. As usual, Eilbeck Cranes supported the product all the way through the end of the project, Eilbeck Cranes commissioning engineer has attended to ensure the safe operation and integrity of the system. The system supplied was a milestone success at Eilbeck Cranes, this has been a great example for the many other future conveyor systems upgrade or brand new conveyor systems.

According to its website (2013), the mining operation at Groote Eylandt Mining Company (GEMCO) is the largest and lowest cost producer of manganese ore, it extracts high-grade manganese ore using open-cut, strip mining methods. GEMCO accounts for more than 15 per cent of the world’s high-grade ore production with approximately 70 per cent of its production exported around the globe.

Eilbeck Cranes has been awarded this project by Groote Eylandt Mining to design, fabricate and commission of Tilting Bridge Hoist System and Loading Boom Shuttle System on the ship loading conveyor.
Ship loading conveyor has been upgraded to a higher capacity and as a results of this, mechanical, electrical and structural modifications had to be carried out to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards. Project main features required the successful installation, calibration, commissioning, operation and maintenance. Examples of the implemented components include the heavy duty drive system suitable for operation in harsh mining and marine environments, hydraulic fail-safe high speed and low speed brakes to meet requirements of special lifting applications, sheave block and equaliser sheave system, rope guide roller, load limit, over-speed and position limit switches.
